also good for the soul

I didn't think you could make a good movie from a handful of letters between an ecentric new york writer and a english bookseller.

I was wrong. 84 Charing Cross Road (1986)

This is a wonderful movie and the books are equally enjoyable. I really should dig this movie back out. This was recommended by the guy who ran my favorite video rental shop, a place in SF on Balboa near 2nd Ave. The guy who ran the place had a computer record of what you rented, but even better was he kept track in his head what his regulars rented. He would offer suggestions when you walked in the door. He was a human version of Amazon recommendations in 1991. Actually I do not know there is a replacement for this guy as of yet, Amazon is close, but he would bring out the obscure films that were gems to each person's tastes.
